SOCIAL FABRIC
Leeds Arts University, 2022
Students of LAU Foundation Diploma, Fashion and Textiles pathway, 2022
This workshop invited students to begin exploring and interrogating their relationships with woven textiles. Through the acts of disassembling and
re-constructing, 'un-weaving' and 're-weaving' we considered the values and material language of their woven textile item(s) at hand, the possibilities of the woven structure and what narratives may be uncovered within our everyday textiles.
In the re-working of their chosen textile item(s), this workshop asked them to focus on shape, form, dimensionality and structure. To think critically through making. To gather and exchange knowledge through tactility. To consider the possible history of the textile item(s) whilst contemplating their potential future.
